THE RANGIORA CROSSING SMASH. CORONER'S FINDING. (By Toleeraph —Preoi Association.) Christchurch, September 23. ' At tho adjourned inquest on William Alexander Ranks, who was killed at llangiora by tho north express colliding with a lorry which ho was driving, tho coroner found that deceased's death wa's duo to injuries received through being thrown from tho wagon, which was run into by tho express train from Christchurch to Rangiora on tho level crossing at High Street, Rangiora. Mr. Wright, who appeared for tho "Railways Department, asked the coroner'whether ho would absolva Mrs'. Humphreys from blame, but Mr. Bailey replied that ho preferred not to malco any reference to blame in connection with tho occurrence. HUSBAND SHOOTS WIFE. ACCIDENT WITH A REVOLVER. Auckland, September 23. Mrs. Annio Rawstrom, aged fifty-two, wife of Alfred James Rawstrom, was accidentally shot by her husband at Epsom, this morning. Mr. and Mrs Rawstrom returned from a holiday trip to Sydney on Sunday, and when unpacking to-day, Mrs. Rawstrom, lifting a revolver from a bag, remarked: "It is stiff." Her husband replied: "Of course it is. It is held by a clasp." Ho took hold of tho weapon, and moved tlie clasp ; causing iho revolver to bo discharged. His wifo fell to the floor with a. bullot wound under tho left eyo and bleeding profusely. She died about fifteen minute? later. INGLEWOOD ACCIDENT. , Inglewood, September 23. A young mail, Benjamin Baker, fell from the upper floor of tho Town Hall building to tho floor, a distance of twenty-one feet. Ho suffered a compound fracturo of the right arm, and severely from shock, and possibly there is also internal injury. He was sent to tho New Plymouth Hospital. ENGINE HITS JIGGER: Hamilton, September 23. While riding a jigger from Frankton' to Hamilton yesterday evening, William Mooney, inspector or permanent way, was struck,by a shunting engine from behind, and sustained superficial injuries to his legs, arms, head, and cliest. ACCIDENT AT CALLIOPE DOCK. Auckland, September 23. A painter named Harold Hodgson, aged 25 years, who resides at Onehunga, met with a painful accident .whilo working on the dredgo Hapai at the Calliopo Dock this morning. Tho man was standing on a ladder painting the upper portion of tho dredge, when two wedges nndor the ladder slipped and ho fell to tlio bottom of tho dock, a distance of about 30ft. It was seen that he was severely injured, and ho was immediately convoyed to tho Auckland Hospital, where it was found that Hodgson had sustained injuries to his -back, and had fractured an ankle. He is; progressing favourably;.'
MAN FOUND DEAD. Christchurch, September 23. ; James Alfred Carter, a married-man, 5'2 years of age. was found dead tonight in an outnonso behind his residence. Ho was last seen at 11 o'clock ; .this morning. Tho cause of death is not known.
