A telegram from 'Mastorton-published in The Dominion yostorday stated that tho Wairarapa branch of tho Teachers' Institute passed tho following resolution:—"That this branoh of tlio Now Zealand Institute is disappointed to find that np reference was made by tho Minister for Education 1 in his reccnt statement in Parliament to promise that tho Ealarios of tho secondary assistants in tho district high sohools would bo specially considered this session, nor to promise that all teachers sufforing reductions of salary this year, on. account of falling attondanoe, would bo reimbursed."

The Minister for Eduoation (tho Hon. Jas. Allen), whon tho foregoing resolution was mentioned to him yesterday, pointed out £hat ho hud more than onoo reforrod to tho increases in salary which it was proposed to givo to secondary, school teachers and others. Moreover, tho increases are provided for in tho recently-introduced Education Amendment. Bill. Following are tho present and proposod salaries of secondly school teachors, tho proposed " salaries being shown in parentheses• Schools of 12 to 20 I pupils i £150—« £180 (£l6s—£lßo). Schools of 21 to 80 pupils; £18ft—« £210 (£120—£240). Schools of 31 to 70 pupils: First) toacher, £180 —£210 (£2lO-£240). Second toacher, £135—£165 (£l6s—* £180).

Schools of 71 to 105 pupils: Third teaohcjr, £105—£135 (£150—£180). Schools of 106 to 140 pupils: First toachor, £210—£240 (£240 —£270). Second icachor, £165—£180 (£lßo— £210). Third teaoher, £135—£165 (£150—£180). Fourth teacher, £135£160 (£ls0 —£180). Schools of 141 to 175 pupils: Fifth teacher, £135—£165 (£160—£180). Schools of 176 to 210 pupils: Fourth' teacher, £160 —£180 (£l65 —£180). Fifth teachor, £185 —£165 (£lso— £180). Sixth teacher, £135 —£150 (£ls0 —£180).
