Tlio death is announced from Palmerston North of Mrs. Burbush, widow of the late Mr. Henry Burbush, of Wellington and Nolsoni Deceased landed at Wellington soventy-two years ago, being then only one year old, and bug had many interesting experiences in tho early days. Mrs. Burbush waß married twico, her first husband being tho late Mr. John Reay. She leaves four sons and two daughters, among tbs former being Mr. F. H. Burbush, of Auckland.

Tho Rev. G. W. Ray, F.R.G.S., who is known as "The Livingstone ol South America," andwho is giving an account of his explorations at St. John's Schoolroom this evening, is a Canadian by birth, having been bom in Toronto and educated in Montreal. Some dozen years ago, during a visit to England, ho read a paper before the Royal Geographical Society, on his exploration work in South America', describing how ho had discovered tribes of Indians who had never previously seen a white man, and tho degree of F.R.G.S. was conferred upon aim. Ho has also written ft book, "Through Five Republics on Horseback." the tenth edition of whioh has just been published by an Auckland firm. Mr. Ray spent twolvo years amongst the most savage tribes of South Amorica .and has lectured on his experiences in all parts of North America, in tho Arctio Circle, Alaska, Dawson City, and Klondike. After visiting England he went to Australia,' and landed in Wellington last Wednesday.
Mr. Harold Carr, who has been manager of tho Royal Rink, Auokland, for some months past, has joined the headquarters staft of Haywardß, Limited, in this city.
Mr. Dugald Ferguson is at present on a visit to Feilding.
Mr. John Annand-Smlth, who has filled tho position of secretary of the Waikato Publishing Company, Ltd., for tho past two yearß, has severed his connection with that office. In association with others he has acquired the To Aroha "News," possession of which is to be taken on October 1.
The death of Captain R. 0. Paterson, a retired shipmaster, is reported from Dunedin. Deceased was 82 years of ago.
Three deaths occurred in Gore on Sunday of well-known residents. The Rov. J. M. Davidson, aged 84. was ordained 1 nt Dunedin in 1866, and after a period at North Taieri and Mataura Valley was induoted to the Mataura ohargo .in 1876, retaining that position for sirteen years. During the last eleven years ho lived in retirement at Gore. 110 was the first Moderator of tho Mataura Presbytery, and also filled the position x)f Moderator of Otago Synod about twenty-five years ago. Ho was twice married, and a widow 'survives him. Mr. William Johnston). aged 80 years, a well-knmvn resident during the past thirty-two years, also died I .' Ho arrived! in the colony in 1869. After working a few years at tho origin earing trade in Port Chalmers he took up land near Gore. For several years ho has lived in retirement. Ho leaves a widow, four sons, and five daughters. Mm. Paterson. wife of Mr. J. A. Patorson, baker, also passed away on Sunday, v agod 43. —Press Association. Mr. J. A. Nash.
