SOME FIELD WORK.
A body of khaki-clothed men, with red crosses worn on their arms, and followed by a white-covered,wagon with a similar rod cross, togother with tho rhythmic' tramping of many foot, attracted tho attention of tho crowded trams, expresses, and motor-cars that wero bearing thoir living freight Parkwards to tho football match on Saturday aftornoon. It was tho No. 4 Fiold Ambulanco, on its way to iliramar, to undorgo practical training in tho art of stretqfiot drill. This is tho firet daylight parado held this Defence year, and is tho forerunner of six others. A graduated programmo has been laid down, and, if fully followed out, should add greatly to tho efficiency of tho corps. ' On arrival at' Miramar, drill was carried out under tho instructions of the 0.C., particular caro being given to tho stretcher exercises. This was followed by drill, in tho loading and unloading of tho ambulanco wagon,, several pseudo patients being requisitioned for the purposo. A party of men wero told off to boil water for tea in tho "dixies," , a sergeant instructing thcin in tho mannor of building army fires in tho field. ' Tho signallers attached to the corps also put in some good work, at timos dispatching and receiving messages over long distances. Tea and light rations wero supplied, nnd tho men returned to town about 7 p.m.
