SURFING.

LYALL BAY CLUB'S REPORT. The third annual report of tho Lyall Bay Surf and Life-saving Club states that tho membership, which is limited to 120, has been kept well up to that number, notwithstanding the general inclemency of tho weather. On December 8 last the club entertained tho bvdnev swimmers, Messrs. Solomons, Hay, and Riddiugton, at the bay. A programme of life-saving was arranged and carried through with great, success. During the Easter holidays members ot tho Richmond Swimming Club (Clinstchurch) visited the bay, mainly for the purpose of introducing a life-buoy, invented by one of their members. Demonstrations were arranged and the invention was a pronounced success, it being brought into practical U6e by an accidont which occurred at the time. Tho club gave numerous demonstrations of life-saving on tho beach during tho season and the club is thankful to report tho absence of fatalities. Special mention is mado of the good woik performed by Mr. R. M. Newman who, on one occasion, was instrumental in effecting a rescue. Tho club's rooms at Lyall Bay are now well equipped for members' requirements and elcctric light is to be installed at an early date bv the City Council. Teams wero entered at various swimming carnivals during tho season, and events Were won on more than one occasion. The. club's balancc-shcet discloses a satisfactory state of affairs, there being no liabilities and tho assets, which include £13 in cash, amount to £47 9s. lOd. In conclusion the club desires to thank Messrs. .7 F Atkins, A. C. M'Killop, R. B. Graingc, and Mr. W. H. D. Bell, M.P., ami l)r. Young for tho practical interest they have shown in the work of tho club.
