HARRIERS.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. On Saturday afternoon, at' Miramar, tlio Wellington Harriers' Club held its annual championship run, over » distaueo of five miles. The course selected was a complete circuit of the Miramar Hat. Starting from the old golf houso, the trail led duo north until reaching the foot of tlio hills at tlio northern end; a fair amount of road work was avoided by setting the course a littlo to tht> west of the road, this brought competitors out on tlio road, eventually, about 600 yards from the tram terminus. On reaching tlio northern end of the plain, tho trail skirted tlio foot of the hills, led past tlio rear of Wonderland,' and from thero to tho gasometer. From this point the fields were crossed, and tho road struck about halfway between tho Seatoun-Miramar Junction and City Boundary. 'l'lio track was followed to tho foot of tho hills at tho extreme southern end. The track eventually led in a northerly direction, and struck the road near the powor-liouso, which loft about 200 yards of road to bo covered before rcaohing tho finishing post. Tho officials for tho day were:—Judges, Mr. J. 11. Pollock and Mr. W. C. Bennett; timekeeper, Mr. W. F. Watt; course stewards, Mr. T. Farrington and Mr. S. Boniams. Ten competitors faced the starter (Mr. J. H. Pollock), and from tho jump R. Eaglo went to tho front, closely^followed by Donaldson, Press, and Kerr, This order was maintained oyer tho first milo, at tho end of which Bennett moved forward, passing ICorr, tho rest of tlio field being fairly close up. At about half-way (two miles and a half), R. Eaglo had a substantial lead, Donaldson being his nearest opponent, and Press a few yards behind. A gap of about olio hundred yards separated Bennett from the first division, and somo 10 yards behind him camo Kerr and Power, practically together, and the rest of tho field "had strung 1 out somewhat, and at this point T. Eagle and J. Kirk pulled out. R. Eagle maintained his load until tho last half-milo, when he missed tho trail, thereby loosing his position to W. Press, who eventually ran in first, and was clocked at 33min. Bsec. R. Eaglo .finished five seconds behind, second; W. Donaldson filled third place, time, 34min. 8soo.; W. Bennett, fourth, 34min. 19sec. _ _ The sealed handicap, run in conjunction with the championship, resulted in R. Eagle (18sec.) boing phtcod first, W. Press (osec.) second, and W. Donaldson (scr.) third. Next Saturday the club will wind up the season with a run from Kelburne Tea Kiosk. BROOKLYN CHAMPIONSHIP. On Saturday afternoon, at Miramar, under tho best of weather conditions, the Brooklyn Harriers held their annual club championship and sealed handicap over a course of fivo miles. Sharp at 3 p.m." the competitors, sixteen in number, lined up at tho start-ing-post, an from an even start, effected by Mrs. Ballantyno. C. Murray jumped to tho front, closely followed by F. Vi'anningtbn, P. Oliver, and G. Hutton. 'Jfjiis order was maintained until the two-mile post was reached, then Ballan;tyno took up tlio running, closely followed by F. Byrne, C. Murray, and G. | Hutton. Crossing tho sand dunes, F. Byrne went to tho front, closely .followed by R. Ballantyne and C, Murray. On entering tho straight, Byrne, running remarkably well, oracked on the paco, and passod tho' finishing-post an easy winner, his time boing 30min. 17sec. Next to finish wero R. Ballantyno, C. Murray, and G. Hutton. Tho sealod. handicap, which was run in conjunction with tho championship, was won by I'. Harvey, who had 3min. 51sec. start off F. Byrne. A.. Oliver (Smiii. lGsec.) was second, and E. Shaw (4min, 51sec.) 'third. Tho most rcmarkablo thing is that P. Harvey won tho novice handicap, tho first race of tho present season, and tlio last race. No doubt ho will be hard to beat next year. After the race members and their lady friends were ontertained at afternoon tea. Mr. Ballantyne (president) and Mr. Harvey (vico-president) congratulated the winners of tho championship and sealod handicap. Tho officials' wore Judges, Mr. R. Ballantyne, Mr. 1\ Harvey, and Mr. Bristow (pernor); starter, Mrs. Ballantyno; timekeopors, Messrs. Matherson and Wilton;, trail layers, Messrs. L. Brown and R. Cooke; • liandicapper, P. A. Wilton. Tho 1913 season will bo brought to a close next Saturday afternoon with a ono aild a half-milo consolation handicap, from the Oriental Bay Kiosk. In tho evening a smoko concert will be held in the club room, when trophies won during tlio season will bo presented.
