Tho " Daily Express" states that General Sir lan Hamilton will probably be appointed Commander-in-Chief in India (m succession to General Sir O'Mooro Creagli) when the post of In-spector-General of tho Overseas Forceß (which Sir lan lias held sinco 1910) is abandoned.

Mr. Glynn, Fedoral Minister for External Affairs, informed a deputation of Presbyterian clergymen, wto _ complained of tho unsatisfactory working of the Anglo-French New Hebrides convention, that ho did not think there had been any conscious condonations of breaches of the convention. FIRE 'AT GHENT EXHIBITION. London, September 18. 'At midnight a fire broke out in tlio Rhoinland Restaurant at tho Ghent Exhibition, and spread to a shop adjoining. The confectioners and bakers' pavilion and four other pavilions woro speedily destroyed. The fire was extinguished after burning fcr two hours and a-half. 'At Marinotte, Wisconsin, the latest freak law, that against gossips, has beon enforced. Peter Kosoki, a Niagara resident, was arrested and charged with gossiping about a girl acquaintance. The Court warned him against repeating the practice and dismissed tho case, pointing out that the Wisconsin law did not allow goßsip likely to injure aiiyono's reputation.
