Mr. Douglas Leith Ross was admitted as a solicitor of tho Supremo Court by Mr. Justico Cooper at Auckland on Wednesday. The Rev. P. W. Olarkson, official lecturer to tlio Bible-in-Schools League, left Auckland on Thursday evening for tho North. He will conduct a campaign in Whangarei and tlio Bay of Islands. Mrs. Maria iAshwell, rolicti of tho late Rev. Benjamin Yates Ashwoll, who was a missionary in tho Waikato in tlio early days, died on Tuesday at lior rosidence, Auckland. Since tho death of her husband Mrs. Ashwell lived for many yoara in Parnell. Tho interment took place at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Parnell. The examinations of police officers are to ho held in tho grand jury room at tlio Supremo Court 011 tho first threo days of noxt week under tho supervision of Superintendent J. W. Ellison and an Education Board inspector. Tho subjects for which papors are sot for the oxamiuatioiis include arithmetic, geography, English, reading, spelling. dictation, evidence; prescribed Acts of Parliament, polico regulations, polico and detective duties, Polico Offcncos Act and elementary cvidenco, Crimes Act, Gaming Act, and tlio Licensing Act. About 20 candidates aro expected j to sit at tho Wellington centre.
