Mr. G.H. Murphy, Inspeotor ConsulGeneral for tho United States of America, arrived at Brisbane last week from tho East. In tho oourso of a conversation Mr. Murphy said ho was visiting Australia and Now Zealand and tho neighbouring islands to inspect tlis various American consulates.

At the Wellington Hospital on Thursday ovening there passed 'away in the person of Mr. George Stafford Styles another of the fast-diminishing bandof pioneer settlers who took part in the Maori War.
