WESTPORT HARBOUR.

ADMINISTRATION REVIEWED. (By Telegraph—Frees Association.) West port, September 18. The Westport Harbour Board Commission continued to-day. - Alex M'Donald, an overseer at Cape Foulwind in tho early days, gave evidence/that things wero worked economically then, but there, was an impression for the last ten years that thero nad been over-manning and extravagance. Ho believed his services had been dispensed with because he did not deal with tho then chairman. It was common rumour that dealing with certain members of tho board affected employment, but he could gjve no instances. Captain Simpson, master of the dredge Eileen Ward, which worked in and out of the floating basin, thought that 110 difficulty would be experienced in handling boats from 300 to 400 feet in length or as large as could work tho bar, if alterations were made to tho entrance. Through men being suspended for being late for work sometimes, detaining a shin in the harbour, and other branches, and being allowed to come on again next day, discipline had not been kept up to tho mark. Improvements required to tlio Ruby Seddon dredge had not been attended to. Tho extension of the eastern breakwater beyond the western had mado dredging moro irregular and difficult.
