Miss Adelaide Bruce, Australian contralto, aided by local performers, gave a capital concert under the auspiccs of the West Coast Caledonian Society. The Palmerston Reform League, at its annual meeting, re-elected Mr. P. Jackson, president, and appointed the following other officer's: —Vice-presidents, Messrs. E. L. Broad, C. Whitehead, and AV. Little; treasurer, Mr. AV. M'Kenzie; secretary, Mr. C. Whitehead; executive, Messrs. W. Jemmett, W. M'Kenzie, S. Hunt, S. Russell, W. Robb, G. Marshall, A. E. Bennett, R. Reaburn, E. G. Sim, W. Cutler, W. Gillori, L. Johansen, AV. Davey, H. Spiers, W. Little, 0. Haycock, E. A. James. The general Dominion secretary addressed the meeting. The first meeting of the council of the Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association, under tlic district scheme, elected. Mr. AV. H. Booth, president ; and Mr. R.'L. Linn, vice-president. The total membership is 300. The' new members' included Dr. C. P. Knight, of AA'cllington. MASTERTON. The following eases faavo been set down for hearing at the sitting of the Supremo Court, which opens here, on Tuesday next:—Civil: George Benton v. Alfred Henry Herbert, claim £501 damages for alleged breach of contract; Philip A. Rive v. his Majesty the King, claim £200 damages in connection with injuries alleged to have been sustained through falling over a sack lying on the platform of the Featherston Railway Station; Hugh R. T. Douglas v. Donald JI. claim £397 12s. 10d., amount alleged to bo due to plaintiff by ono Andrew Douglas, deceased, for whoso estate defendant is administrator; Charles Miller v. Albert John Parton, claim £501 for alleged libel. Criminal: Rex v. Niel Edward -Hannah, alleged criminal assault. A divorce case and sis applications for discharge from bankruptcy will also be dealt with. ■ A petition in bankruptcy was on A\ednosday filed by Qharles Grubb Colville, bootmaker, of Palmerston North, Mr. AV: R. Kemball has resigned ,Ins position as secretary of tho AVairarapa Cricket Association. The Bible-in-schools question is to. be discussed at a meeting_ of the AVairarapa branch of tho Educational Institute, to be held on Saturday. Mr. F. H. Bakewell, M.A., will also deliver an address on "Ideals of Education." Mr. D. K l . Logan, president of the AA'airarapa Rugby Union, has donated a gold medal for the back player showing tho best form during the' remaining matches of tho season.

CARTERTON. 'Mrs. Boyle, of Gladstone, whoso health lias not been good for some time, was to have taken a 'rip to Melhourno by tho Manuka on 'Ihursdfiy. She is now, however, not well enough to start. . , Mr. D. K. Logan, president of tho Wairarapa' Rugby Union, has donated a gold medal to the union for presentation to "the back showing the best form in the remaining two representative matchos. Tho donation is made with a view to improving back play in AVairarapa, and it is to be hoped that it will havo the desired effect.

FEATHEBSTON. A number of small • fires in Featherston recently have been attended by suspicious circumstances. There have ■been five^outbreaks .in, three .weeks and four since Monday,' all of the latter: being in outbuildings, adjacent to largo buildings. On Monday night a stable and trap-shed on the proporty of Mr. 0. Todd, butchcr, was burned, and signs were apparent'of an incipient'fire in°a wasbhouse attached to another pnvato residence. Early 011 Thursday morning an old cottage used as-a toolhouse, and owned by the Town Board, was totally, destroyed. The burned building was closc to the Town Hall, and had there been any wind from the northwest the hall would probably have caught. Prior to 1 that, on the Wednesday night, some straw and boxes in tho stables at the rear of the lloyal Hotel wore found to be alight. The outbreak was extinguished before , any serious damago was done.
