Mr. C. H. Howorth, engineer to tho ; Wanganui Harbour Board, returned from a holiday visit Ho England and the Continent on Wednesday. The' Rev. H. S. Woollcombo, who toured New Zealand some few years ago in connection with the Church of Engi land Men's Socioty, has been appointed vicar of a parish or 18,000 people in tho city of Leeds by the Archbishop of York, president of the C.E.M.S. Adcock, second officer ot the Indrabarali, has been presented with a gold pendant, in tho shape of a ship s wheel, by Mr. A. Monsen, of Napier, Tho presentation is a memento ot tiio occasion upon which tho .recipient saved Mr. Monsen's life at the time of tho stranding of tho Indrabarah. _ lho pendant bore tho following inscription: "Presented to A. W. Adcock, second officer, Indrabarah, for rescuing A. Monsen, Rangitikei Beach, May 10, lalo., > Major J. S. Maidlow, assistant dircctor and instructor in artillery duties, arrived in' Wellington on Wednesday from tho South Island.
