Eanishaw. to; add 'new clauseii ' were ■ withdrawn, and tho Billwas reported .without-amendment. Tho-Hon. J. B.'Callan - moved ■ the third l6Ming!.'of the Bill. The Hon. J. E. Jenkinson raised, an objection to tho provision of Clause 6,' which'allowed the board to invest its ! sinking-fund ;in its'own securities. It i was att entirely, wrong, principle, ho 'said, and such power should bo granted ito. no local body. ' Tho ! Council - divided on a proposal Hhattlio Bill should bo recommitted, the •'motion,";being carried by 14 to 1L In Committee, the Hon. J. E. Jenekinson'moved to amend Section la 'of Clause 6,-which read as follows: —"In tho case of a sinking fund, by investing tho same, together with all interests nnd profits accruing therefrom, and such securities as the board from time to time directs, and, in particular, in tho purchase of any debenture issued by :-'the board, whether in. connection with the loan in;-respect of which such j moneys'-are' held, by the said.
