NEW PLYMOUTH NOTES.

The New Plymouth Borough Council at its .last meeting decided to apply to the Defence Department for a portion of the subsidy which has been granted towards the cost of placing old soldiers' graves in order. In accordance with this decision a letter has been forwarded to the Minister for Defence and a copy of same to Mr. H. J. Okey, M.P. The latter, in reply, states: "I am pleased to inform vou that the sum of £150, .£ for £ subsidy, is 011 the 1913-14 Estimates towards the cost of removal to New Plymouth Conjetery of remains of soldiers killed in the Taranaki district and the erection of an obelisk." The Egmont County Council has decided to take steps to. raise a loan or ■ £3621, with a currency of 36J years, to pay the county's-share of the cost of the new hospital. The Eguioiit County Council has lost 110 less than £1569 in the past fivo years through the Natives failing to pay rates. At tho parade of veterans 011 Sunday a letter was read from the secretary of the. llawera branch of the association inviting the members of the Taranaki l branch to attend a gathering at Hawera of the veterans of Hawcra and Wanganui at a social gathering in commemoration of the attack on To Ngutu o To Manu, 45 years ago.
