WANGANUI NOTES.

(Trom Out SDfioial Oorr«epona«nU Tho Wanganui East Presbyterian congregation, which Ims grown from a small beginning, celebrated its ninth anniversary last evening, when a social gathering took place in the Town Hall, and was largely attended. Wanganui tramway returns for the month of August show an increase of business over that of the same month last year. A total of 153,440 passengers were carried during tho month, and tho total revenue was £1223 us. Out of this the' borough portion of tho system earned £984 155., and the Gonville portion £238 10s. Owing to the winter season, the latter routo shows a shortage month's working. 1 Tile first annual report of the Wanganul. Society for tho Health of Women and Children shows that, after paying all expenses (including £150 per year as Ealary of the Plunket Nurse), the society begins its sccond year with a credit balanco of £50 4s. Gratifying success has attended the society's work, and the services of the Plunket Nurso have been in great request. A youth whose repeated breakaways from the Weraroa Training Farm rather mark him as a hater of discipline, wandered into AVanganui a couple of days ago, where he was promptly pounced on by tho police. Mr. Kerr, S.M., before whom lie appeared, remanded him for a week.
