At tho Anglican Congress, the Bishop of South Tokio (Dr. Boutflower) said that' tho missionaries were faced by the hardest possible task in Japan, but this was not duo to languages, as in other lands, or to the exclusive nationalism of the people. Japan presented the highest form of civilisation among the unCliristianised countries, and as, citizens tho Japanese were worthy of the highest respect .from the white man. If the Christian Church could win them, it would be a great victory, as the whole of tlio Orient was waiting to see tho issuo.
