FEDERAL PROPOSAL CRITICISED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, September 15. Dr. Ramsay Webb, in his Presidential address to the British Medical Association, referred to the Commonwealth Government's proposod sclicmo of national insurance. It was not_ evident, ho said, that there was any widespread demand for such a system; yet the demand had been assumed as a matter of course. The medical profession, which had. intimato knowledge of the surroundings and homo life of the working classes, must deny the existence of any considerable number so destitute as to justify adoption of tho scheme.
. Tho Federal Hotso of Representatives recently passed a motion to tho effcot that tho timo had arrived to take stops to remove tlio evil of unemployment.in Australia. Commenting on the motion, Mr. Glynn . (Minister for Extoranl Affairs) announced that ho was formulating questions to frion/Uy societies, whose co-operation in national insurance ras desired. Tho Government, lie . added, haul decided to introduce a measuro which would at least mitigate, if not remove, -unemployment.
