A respectably-dressed man named Honry Willoughby Joyce, 48 years of age, came before Mr. F. ,V. Frazer, S.M., yesterday morning charged thai ho obtained half-a-crown by means of false pretences and was remanded. Chief Detective . M'Mahon remarked that ofhor charges were pending. The allegation from the police side is that Joyce illegally joined in the Y.W.C.A. fund collection campaign. Joyce ni>« proached the committee and expressed a desiro to be put on the list of collectors, but the request was declined on tho grounds that ho was. not personally known to. tho committee. Ha was subsequently seen to be engaged in wnat looked suspiciously like tlio ; work of colecting. Consequently Dotectivc Soott arrested him wlion he had ill 1 his possession a book which was riot an official collection book, indicating ; that ho had received for tho Y.W.O.A. an amoimt of £4 in sums ranging from' 6s. down to 2s. Joyce stated that ib' was his intention to hand tho money over to the proper quarter, but tho cash? on him at the time amounted- to only 4s. 9d. , - SHEEP & SHIP CO. FAILURE TO LIFT THE LOT. .! !
