DULLER WIN SEDDON SHIELD.
MARLBOROUGH DEFEATED. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Blenheim, September 13. i After a strenuous game, Duller car- ■; ried off the Seddon Sliield ; beating Marlborough by 3 points to nil. Tho game was full of incident, and at times very exciting. From the outset Buller pressed strongly, and half tho spell had gone when Bligh had a shot at goal from a penalty, but missed. Jackson earned a round of applauso by smartly breaking in on a Buller passing rush, , and carrying tho ball well out of danger. Tho visitors again attacked, forcing Marlborough. Shortly after Green marked in a handy position, and Bligh sent the ball ovor. This was tho only scoro of tho gamo. Towards tho end of the gamo tne Marlborough men were wanting in combination and failed to take advantago of openings which presented themselves. As the end approached, the ball travelled up and down tho field with alternate advantage, and Marlbrougli worked hard to score, but tho defence was too good, although a couple of times Buller were forced. Tho gamo ended: Buller, 3; Marlborough, ml. MISCELLANEOUS CAMES. Chrlstohurch, September 13. The rofereos' match, Canterbury v. Wellington, creatod much interest. -The teams, drawn from the Roferees' Associations, contained many old players more or less fit. Wellington only mustered half a dozon men, the remainder of the team being local moil. Play was mostly in favour of Canterbury in the early stages, but Wellington improved greatly ''towards tho close, tho final scores being: Canterbury, 14; Wellington, 12.
MUNICIPAL TEAMS. Christchuroh, September 13. Tho match between teams representing tho Wellington and Christchurch municipal officers created considerable interest. After a fast, exciting gamo tho visitors won by 13 to 5. A SHIELD PROPOSAL. (By Tolegfrapli.—Press Association.) VVestport, September 14. It is commented on as a strange coincidence that tho Ranfurly Shield, held by Auckland, with a break of only on?) year, since the inception of shield matches, and the Seddon Shield, held likewise by Marlborogtih, should both havo changed hands this year, Taranaki and Buller being tho successful challengers in tho respective cases. It is suggested that a match between tho two shield holders, on a neutral ground, say, Wellington, would provo interesting. Buller has this year played five representative matches, winning them as follows: —Against Canterbury, 8 to 5; West Coast, 20 to 9; Inangahua, 27 to 3; Nelson, 16 to 3; Marlborough, 3 to nil. The total points scored were :— Eos', 74; against, 20. Bannatyne and Co. defeated the Vacuum Oil Co. at Anderson Park on Saturday by 15 to 11.
