with a strong westerly wind, which interfered somewhat with tho play. Shortly after 2 p.m. tho wind lulled, and rain began to fall, continuing intermittently throughout tho remainder of tho afternoon. Tho course was in perfcct order, and the greens played exceptionally well. Forty competitors have entered for the \ championship. Nine games, completing tho first heat, were got off during tho day.
