UNITED STATES GUNBOAT ON POLICE DUTY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Washington, September 8. Dominican gunboats, during tho recent revolution thero, bombarded Puerto Plata, ondangoring American lives and property. Tho.United States Department has now ordered tho dispatch of tho gunboat Dos Moines to protect 'Americans.
The Dominican Republic (negro), of which Puerto Plata is' the chief port, occupies part of the West Indian island of Haiti, the other part being known as the negro Republic of Haiti. According to Jano ("Fighting Ships"), the Dominican "navy" consists, of two old gunboats.
