The Dominican Republic (negro), of which Puerto Plata is' the chief port, occupies part of the West Indian island of Haiti, the other part being known as the negro Republic of Haiti. According to Jano ("Fighting Ships"), the Dominican "navy" consists, of two old gunboats.
