NAVY LEAGUE.

RECENT LOSSES BY DEATH. The hand of Death has recently removed several strong supporters of the Navy League. Iu addition fo the loss of Captain J. D. Hewitt (president of the l'almerston North sub-branch), and Mr; E. J. Lo Grove, of the Wellington Executive, the death of Mr. Gordon Arbor, lion, secretary of tlio Tiniani branch of the Navy Leaguo, is announced. He was for a time on the executive of tho Wellington branch, and was always an enthusiastic worker. Letters convoying tlio condolences of tho Wellington branch have been sent by Mr. C. W. Palmer to Sirs. Arber, and'to tho Timaru branch of tho Navy League. Latterly, Mr. Arber bad been appointed organiser for tho Dunodin Expansion Leaguo. His physical strength was, however, not equal to his untiring energy and enthusiasm, and lie brolto down under the strain-of work.

Aided by tlio ladies' branch of tlio League at Timaru, ho was instrumental in initiating tlio battle-cruiser "Flag Presentation Fund" to which members of tho Leaguo throughout the Dominion subscribed. There is a balance of £40 left over after payment for the flags, and tho League of Timarn has just dc'eided to remit that ainount to Captain Halsev, with a suggestion that lie should purchase a cup or cups to bo allotted to whatever form of gunnery prize he may think best. A frozen wreath has not been sent to London this year, but arrangements am being made for a wreath of English flowers to bo placed on tho Nelson memorial in Trafalgar Square, on October 21, as from the combiner! branches of tho Navy League in Now Zealand in commemoration of the naval struggle 1 which had tho effect of securing tho peace and freedom of the seas of tho I world over 100 yewa ago.
