GOVERNMENT GRANT SOUGHT. j' By Telegraph—Press Asjoolatlon—Copyright Melbourne, September 6. e Mr. Cook, Federal Prime Minister, promised to consider tho request by a a deputation to grant £5000 towards e equipping tho Aurora to bring back -the Maw.son Antarctic party and wiping off tho debts- of thri expedition. Professor David, in urging tho claims for a grant, said tho indebtedness of the expedition was £11,000, towards which tha committeo had about_£6ooo. He pointed out the importance of the expedition to Australia, particularly B as regards weather forecasting. Dr. u Mawson, ho said, had succeeded beyond expectation in obtaining valuable information regarding Antarctic disturb- ~ ances, and in consequence many shipwrecks each year might bo averted. j
