Wedding at Tlmaru. The wedding took place last week in St. Mary's Church, Timani, of Miss Talbot, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Talbot, Enfield, Kingsdown, to Mr. .Roderick O'Briedi Lindsay, _ third boii of Colonel Lindsay, Wai-iti Road Timaru. The Veil. Archdeacon Jacob performed the corenioiiy. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white satin, draped with lace, the court train being of aerophano lined with palest pink and bordered with Mechlin laco. Her veil was fastened with clusters of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of white flowers. - The bridesmaids were Miss Betty and Miss Edith Talbot. Tho former wore white charmeuso with an ovedress of palest pink ninonj a pink Tuscan hat with''white poppies and green loaves, arid carried a pink parasol. Miss Edith Talbot was in pale pink satfn. veiled in liinon of the nalest neliotropo,' a heliotrope satin belt and ends, and Dolly Varden hat trimmed with field flowers, and tied with black velvet strings. Sho carried a heliotrope showor-bouquet. The little maid of honour wore a white lace frock, pink sash, and white mob cap; and her brother a white suit with a pink tie. Mrs. Talbot, tho bride's mother, wore a handsomo frock of black lace over white satin. A green velvet bow on tho corsage was veiled in black, and her hat was of black and white straw with a whito -ostrich feather. Her bouquet was of pink and white carnations. Mr. Stringer was best man, and Mr. Norton groomsman. Tho bride travelled m a black and white shepherd's plaid costume with white muslin collar and/ cuffs, and a black and white panama hat with a black band. Remaining Flower Show Awards. At tho Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's spring flower show, which was brought to a conclusion on Friday evening, the remaining awards were as follows Mrs. E. Johnson secured the judgo's award in tho decorated tables class, wliilo tho public vote in the same section .was given to Mrs. \V. Hendry XBG votes), with Miss G. Jenness (84 votos) second. Miss Dorothy M'Donald secured the first prize in the children's class for decorated tables. Mr. Robert Gibson was given a prize for having the best long trumpet daffodil of the show. In tTie cottage garden class, Mrs. A. M. Smith secured an award for her collection of spring flowerß, while Mrs. \Y. Hendry was second. . ? Follding Notes. The Bridge Club held their last meeting at Mrs. Porter's house. Among the players were: Mesdames Gillespie, Willis, Miles, Halliday, Innes-Jones, Rem-ington-Jones, Horrocks, Roberts, Blaxall, and others. . , Miss Fergusson (Te Kuiti) has been staving with Mrs. Gillespie. Miss Fitzherbert is tho guest or Mrs. A. Fitzherbert. . ... Mts. S. Fitzherbert (Te Kuiti) is staying with friends in Feilding. Mrs. Fry has returned from kelson. Mrs. Leslie Gorton has returned from Wellington. • Mrs. Prior has gone to Napier. A very enjoyable assembly was 'held in the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening. A committee consisting of Mesdames Atkinson, Gillespie, Goodbehere-, L. Gorton, W. Gorton, Haggitt, Horrocks, Sandilands and Willis, Messrs. Atkinson, Gillespie, Goodbehere, L. Gorton, N. Gorton, Haggitt, Horrocks, and Sandilands, and Dr. W'illis were responsible for a- well decorated hall and dainty suppor tables. Tho music supplied by ■ the Marion orchestra. was splendid. Among those present were: Mesdames Walker, Miller, Long, Remington-Jones, Ward, Mosshead, Blundell, M'Lennan, Miles (Marton), Shannon, Fitzherbert, S. Fitzherbert (To Kuiti), Johnston (Te Kuiti), Fry, G. Hill, Broad, Buchanan, Willis (Greatford), Shannon, Fitzherbert, Brace, Burrell, Messrs. Broad, ICarkeet, Goodbehere, Miles (Marton), Cook (Marton), Twigg, Wall, Bailey, Carr, Shannon, Giesen, Knowles, Blundell M'Lennan, Logie, Baddeley, Smith. Hoult, Fry, Haggitt, Dr. Guthrie, and many others. Miss Kathleen Henry, sister of Dr. Henry and Mrs. Leonard Tripp,, was a passenger from London by the lonic on Saturday. Sho has beeu a resident of London for some years. Dr. and Mrs. Snow, Mrs. Squires, and Miss Monson, who have been spending some days in Wellington, left for Wanganui on Saturday. Mrs. Pearce, tho wife of Mr. Pearco, M.l\ for Patea, returned to her home on Saturday. Dr. and ills. Begg left for the south, oil Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Seymour (Pahiatua) wero passengers for Sydney on Friday. Mrs. Coverd'ale "Tiro Moana," Lower Hutt, leaves to-day for Napier to attend tho golf championship contest. Colonel and Mrs. F. Goring (Auckland) returned to New Zealand on Saturday by the lonic from England. The marriago took place last week of Miss Lucy Wroughton, only daughter of Mr. and 'Mrs. Wroughton, Union Bank, Ashburton, to Mr. Noel Mackenzie Gibson, son of tho Rev. Mackenzie Gibson, vicar at Waimate. Miss Jarard and Miss Rutherford passed through Wellington from Christchurch last jveok, on their way to Napier for tho gold championship.
Plunket Saturday. Good causes arc not always smiled upon by blue skies and bright sunshine, as tho Plunket Society experienced on Saturday when they mado a great campaign throughout tho city for funds to assist thorn witli their good work for the infant and child life ol' Wellington. The earlier ■ part of tho morning was distinctly unpleasant, and tho afternoon atrociouSj with the rain pouring down solidly with a will,, and tho wind cvory now and again beating it into the wayfarers, wliilo the very look of the streets was enough to sink ono into a perfect slough of despond. It was all the more to tho credit of the collectors that they did their work so cheerfully. The organisers of the campaign, Mrs. Algar Williams (president of the society), Mrs. M'Vicar (secretary), Miss M'Lellan (assistant secretary), and Mrs. Neil M'Lean (treasurer) had much to think of and much to plan for, but they were fortunate ill having so energetic a committee. Valuable work was also done bv Mr. J. G. Reid at the Town Hall. Mrs. Sydney Kirkcaldio and her assistants were most successful with their sale of flowers, which were largely donated by Mrs. W. F. Massey, Mrs. T. G. Macarthy, Mrs..Fitchett, and Mrs. Hassell, of Porirua. Luncheon was supplied by Mr. J. Gotlber, and collections were taken up in the theatres belonging to Messrs. J. 'Fuller and Sons. The committee is also greatly indebted to the Mayor for the use of the Mayoral room and to Messrs. Craig find Cfo. for the crockery. A contribution of £5 was received from a Petone lady towards the funds of tho society. An Aesthetic City. A novel feature is to be introduced in the public library of Los Angeles— a music-room equipped with pianos on which patrons of tho general libarary can try over any of tho music on hand to find out if t-iieji can play it or caro to buy it. Later on, according to the "Tribune" of that' city, phonograph and graphophone records will bo provided for tho benefit of lovers of the preserved music in making selections before purchasing a set of now records. Tho room is to bo made sound-proof, so'that readers in other parts of tho library may not be disturbed. A Fancy Dress Dance. Tho pupils of tho Napier Technical College held a successful plain and fancy dress ball in the Princess Hall on Thursday. Music, was played by Ninnes's Band (three instruments), and extras were contributed by Miss J. Bald amd Mr. C. Rigby. Tho duties of M.C.'s were carried out by Messrs. ID. L. Smart and W. Fossey. Tho prizes for fancy drosses were awarded as followsßest fancy dress. Miss Mabel Peatman (harem skirt); most original dress, Miss Iris Gumbley (Old English), 1; Miss Ruby Morrison (billianls), 2. . Tho prizes were presented bv Mr. J. H. Sheath, chairman of tho College Board of Managers. The supper was tho work of tho pupils, and was very temptingly arranged in the supperrooin. Mrs. Sydney Fitzherbert is at present staying at the Hotel Cecil. Among those going to Napier for the golf championship tournament are Mrs. and Miss Collins, Miss Agnes Pearco, Mrs. Turnbull, Miss Lucy Brandon, tho Misses Bell, Miss Callender, and Miss Greta Ewen. Miss Gladys Dimant (Nelson) has boon spending somo days in .town prior to going on to Napier for tho golf tournament. Miss Bislcy will bo another Nelson visitor to Napier for the contest. ' .
