MESSENCERS V. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.
Sir, —When tho vote "Parliamentary Library" was before tho House last Friday, I notico that the member for Avon, Mr! G. W. Russell, criticised tho appointment of a certain messenger to tho above-named library. To quote his' own words, ho wanted to know why this position was not advertised for, etc., and concluded by an astounding statement "that thero were many poor university students in the service who would liavo jumped at tho opportunity." I should say all students will resent such an insxi.lt, and would be tho last to tako awaj*tho living from one who may not bo over able to aspiro to tho hish positions they .hope to win. ■ If the hon. gentleman was sincero, then I can only say it is one of the "most wretched class" utterances I liavo heard, and not ono in the House gave tho member for Avon oven a reminder' that ho is continually harassing tho Government with the taunt, class legislation. But I think all readers of your columns aro just full up of such trash and helpless criticisms, that wo can only hope for a cliango at tho general, election.—l am, etc., NO MORE AVON.
