I LEAGUE & LEAGUERS.
i fBl ."I'IiEETFOOT."I CURRENT CLUB COSSIP. Men Who Will Have to Explain. A practice gamo was to have been held last Saturday, but tho selected teams failed to muster in full strength. It has been stated that tho reason why the match was put off was because tho Wellington-Auckland Union match was the attraction, but this is quite wrong. Seventeen players came to the ground. Kelly, House, and 1 Finlnyson wero suf- - fering <from injuries received in the Auckland match, while Barber and Parker wero both out of town. This left four players unaccounted for, and it is regrottable to find our leading players thoughtless enough to stay . away simply because the gamo did not happen to bo a cup match. Tho local Leaguo do not intend to let tho matter drop. The four players referred to have been asked to explain their absence, and such explanation as they have to offer will have to be a satisfactory one. First Camo In Palmerston. The gamo is to be introduced in Palmerston to-day when a match Wellington v. Wanganui will bo played. The local League'are sending a good team up to Palmerston, .and it is pleasing to mention .that ,tho players aro making tho trip at their own expense. AVanganui aro also sending along a good team, so Palmerston should see some football to-day. ' " / Junior Cup Winners. The junior cup has been won by the Petone A team, and tlioy are to be congratulated on their achievement. They thoroughly deserved their success; they have paid strict attention to training, and they have been able to put. practically the same team in the field every week. Locked Level. The Petone B and Pctono C team 3 were not far behind —there is much speculation as to which is tho better team —the B or the C. They played last Saturday, but the game ended in a draw. Another game is to take place before the season closes and tho loosers will have to pay. for a dinner. Slow Starters. The Athletic team has improved considerably of late, but they were a long time in getting into their strido. Had thoy got going a little earlier in tho season they would have been hard to beat. The city team -also have made a good showing, but they are often unable to get their best team away, as most of their players are in -the Permanent Force. Cut This Lot Out? The Hutt team cannot expect that bouquets will bo thrown at them. They seem a lazy lot and they merely play when it suits. If they are drawn to play at Hutt they may turn out, but, as soon as they are asked to travel thoy miss the train. This sort .of thing is no use to any codo. Far better to cut a team like that right out, even although it might be hard for some of the members who really do want to play. / Other junior Notes. , In all probability the St. John's team from Wanganui (winner of .the junior competition in Wanganui) will play tho ■Petone'A team as a curtain-raiser to the New Zealand v. Now.Souht Wales match on the Park on September 20, and the Athletic , juniors, will meet Petone A as a curtain-raisbd to the Wellington v. New South Wales match, on September 13. _ . Negotiations are now being made wjth Wanganui for a junior representative match, Wellington v.' Wanganui, at Wanganui, on September 27. Wellington should get a really good side together. Messrs! ReSby, and Isherwood have been' appointed a selection committee to chooso the team for tho trip. ' , -. -1 .
