The text of the oil concession obtained by Lord Murray of Elibank from the Government of Ecuador shows that Lord Murray has secured the right to utiljso any public potroleum lands dis- ■_ covered in Ecuador during tho next forty years. Tho concession was cn,j).iroly gratuitous, cxcept for a -.promiso A- ,to expend £100,000 in exploitation within a decado upon the discovery of tiio oilfields. Lord Murray also secured tho right to expropriate private lands upon torms stipulated by tho engineer and approved by tho Government, g Tho "Elegante," a Guayaquil newsI paper, describos tho deal as "a monstrous concession." P It was announced in Juno last that 0 Lord Murray, as a director of Messrs. S. " Pearson and Son, had signed a contract with tho Ecuador Government for the ded velopment of Ecuador oil lands. He also completed a similar contract with tho Colombian Government.
