FRUIT CONFERENCE.

SECOND DAY. The annual conference of tho New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation was continued yesterday. Air. Walter Wray (Canterbury) presided. Mr. T. W. Kirk (head of tho Fruit Division of>tho Agricultural Department) was in attendance. Duty.on Wrapping Paper. It was decided to ask tho Govern--1 nient to remove the duty on fruit-wrap-ping paper. Air. J. B. Tonar (Waitomata) said • that there 'was no sueli duty in Australia or Tasmania. The Minister for Custojns should be waited on by a deputation from the conference. Packing Instruction. Tho Aloutero representative (Air. I?. P. Hudson) moved: "That tho Government should be asked to obtain the servicesof more expert packers to give instruction in fruitgrowing districts." Air. T. W Kirk said tTiat tho Department was doing its best-, and was willing to send men (whenever possible) to givo additional demon'strations if requests to that effect were made. Tho motion was then withdrawn. Various Matters. It was resolved: "That'tho Government should bo asked to mako the use of Imperial weights and measures compulsory for tho sale, of all spraying materials." A demonstration of systems of packing fruit was 'given by Instructor Thorpe, of the Nelson district. Mr. S.
