ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SUDDEN DEATH IN STREET. ] Yesterday morning a man was observed staggering in Tory Street, and he presently fell to the footpath. Tho police were sent for, and it was then r ascertained that the man was seriously o ill. Dr. Tolhursi was summoned, but « the man expired before he arrived on y the scene—a matter of a fow minutes. ■ d Deceased was removed .to tOie morgue, s where an inquest will bo iheld. He was ii a strongly built man, and as far as tho police know his nam is Booth. This assumption was arrived at by the fact that a pawn ticket bearing that name was found in deceased's* clothing. So far, however, tho polico have not been able to mako a positive identification. A Salvation Army, official who saw the body yesterday afternoon states E that the deceased oloseJy resembles a man who stayed, at the Army Workman's Homo on Monday evening and who gave 'tho namo of Iteid., "\Vith a t view to having the body identified as j soon as possible, tho police 1 supply tho s following description or tho deceased:— ] Height, sft. 10m.; strong build; dark, j brown hair; .brown moustache; brown r eyos; medium straight nose; top teeth t missing in front. 'The body and arms s are extensively tatooed, theso marks j including a braoelot on each wrist. 'ACCIDENT ON S.S AWAROA.' \ 'A rather serious accident happened a on tho Wellington Feilry Company's I steamer. Awaroa at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Joseph Alexander Barrott, a dock hand on tnd vessel, was assisting in placing the hatches on tho hold, when one stuck, * and in endeavouring to movo it he overbalanced and fell a distance of 12ft. into the hold, alighting on a stack of coal. Captain Taylor, summoned Dr. Henry, who ordered immediate removal j to tho hospital. Tho injured man is suffering from concussion of the brain, and a broken nose. Ho ijesides at No. 166 Taranaki Street. Tho' hospital authorities reported last evening that ho' 4 was progressing fairly well under the c circumstances. MISHAP ON THE MANUKA. [ At 10.45 last evening a married man i named John Spene, a fireman employed 0 on the s.s. Manuka, was'admitted to v the hospital suffering from a dislocated i right shoulder. The man, whose homo i is in Auckland, sustained the injury through being bumped up against a ,i boiler, wbich caused him to fall. . PURELY ACCIDENT. J (By Telegraph.—Prc63 Association.)
