At tho conclusion of the sittings of the Public Service Board of Appeal yesterday, the following statement of tho business transacted was issued to the press:— Tho members of the respective Boards of Appeal in connection with tho. Public Servico Act, viz., Messrs. Peter Barr I (chairman) ,and J. H. Richardson (nominated by the Government to act in t.]«v caso of all Departments); Mr. A. llill (elected representative of the Telegraph and Telephone Departments); Mr. F. M. Scully (elected to represent the Postal Department), and Messrs. A. Marryatt and'-J. F. Mouat (elected to re j present tho General Service) met in Wellington on August 29, and sat until September, for the purpose of considering matters of procedure in connection- with the carrying on of the work of the board. Among other matters, decisions were arrived at as follow: — 1. Mr. H. Gerard was appointed act-ing-secretary and stenographer to tho board. 2. That in so far as the classification appeals are concerned, tho sittings of tho board be closed to the public and press, but that members or representatives of tho Public Servico bo admitted by ticket, such tickets to be obtained /r»m tho chairman through the secretary. Deliberations of tho board, after the' liearing of evidence is closed, to bo held in private. / 3. That tho question of whether copies of the answer of the Commissioner (Res- 101) bo sent to appellants bo decided by the board as each case arises, and that when copies are sent the appellants bo informed that, if they so desire, they may appear, or be represented by "a fellow-officer, before tho board. 4. That when appellants apply to bo heard by the board the requests be decided upon their merits. 5. That cases of appeal under Seotioii 56 of the Act (relating to questions of misconduct, etc.) be heard with open doors, unless, in tho opinion of the board, tho circumstances are such as to render an open Court undesirable, and that the appellant ha\-o tho right to bo represented by counsel or agent. 6. That tho board, in addition to meeting in Wellington, will hold sittings iii Dunedin, Christchurch, and Auckland,' and elsewhere as may bo decided upon from time to time. 7. That it is tho intention of the board to meet next in Wellington on or about September 29, and to deal.first with the General Service appeals, and tlien with those of tho Telegraph and Posta.l Departments. Tho order m which' tho appeals from other districts will be dealt with to lie then decided.
