Of the 31 cadets undergoing instruction in seamanship on board the Union Company's training ship Aparima, which arrived at Auckland early yesterday morning, 13 have completed thoir training, and will leave the vessel while in New Zealand watcra to sit for their officers' certificates. There will consequently be ample accommodation for newcomers to fill the vacancies. While the vessel was at Cardiff she. was fitted with wireless telegraphy, and, throughout the voyage to New Zealand by way of the Suez Canal. Colombo, Calcutta, Singapore, and Samarang, the cadets lmvo been instructed how to operate the apparatus. Physical culture also received special attention, and the healthy appearance of the cadets on their arrival reflects credit on the instructoi (iMr. Daniels). Captain .T. R. Mftcdonald. who is in commaiid .of tho Aparima, was formerly master of the training ship Dartford before that vessel was converted into a hulk by the Union Company. He has had a lengthy expc-rienco with tho training scheme tinee its inception. MANUKA ARRIVES 6 A.M. As the Union Company's steamer Aparima has a largo quantity of Calcutta cargo to discharge at Auckland, sho is not expected, to arrive at Wellington before Saturday next. After putting out Westport coal at Port Chalmers next week,-tho Union Company's Karamu will undergo survey 'at the southern port. JTr. H. M'Dcrmit, late of the Wellington Ilarbour Hoard's staff, has joined the steamer Awahou as chief officer. Jlessrs.
