For a man to fall down a lift-woll and not bo killed is m itself a remarkable occurrence, but that, to all appearances, lie should not liavo sustained any serious fractures, rather borders on tho miraculous. A man named Homy Slotcall', working for Messrs. Langgutlio,, whoso warehouse is in Custom Street, was engaged in an upper story of tho building wheeling a trolley laaen with goods, whou both trolley and mail went down tho lift-well in Dalgeiy's Huilding, tho basement being rented 1 by Laiigguth's firm. Tlio drop was about 40 ieot, but, fortunately, tho trolley fell first, and it is possiblo that it helped to break Metcalrs fall. Dr. Dernardi, who was eallod in, found that Metcalf was b.\dly bruised, suffering from shock, and possibly from internal injuries. Ho was removed to tho hospital, but his condition is not regarded as serious.
