RECENT SUCCESS AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Sptcial Correspondent.) Auckland, September 2. Tho Avondalo aeroplane has not yet been able to return from New Lynn, to which place a successful three-mile flight was made on Saturday. Tho cause is unfavourablo weathor, but, if there is an improvement this afternoon, an attempt will be mado to return to Avondale. After Saturday's three-mile flight Mr. Sandford (tho pilot) told a "Star" reporter that ho was perfectly satisfied concerning tho stability of the .machine. "She i 3 as steady as a rock." ho added', '"and I don't thing that slie is at all likely to dip ovor." Both the budding aviators take their success very modestly, and, during their lengthy term of patient working, they have made many friends among the engineering enthusiasts who have visited Avondale to watch their efforts. The Avondalo Jockey Club has offered them encouragement by placing the racecourse at their disposal for experimental purposes. Messrs. Sandford- and Miller expect to liavo the machine in order for .lengthy flights before the Exhibition season commences.
