HUGE DROP IN MINE PROFITS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Johannesburg, August 31. Owing to tlio ireceait strike, the Witwatersrand Company's profit for July la-st decreased' by £300,000 compared with May.
Tor the same month five companies sliowed a loss of £34,000 compared l with a-profit of £52,000 ill May. The total decreased expenditure was £300,000.
WILD TALK AT. MASS MEETING. (Roc. September 1, 10.25 p.m.) Johannesburg, Septemjer 1. A mass meeting of miners declared that victimisation was rampant. There were a number of violent speeches. Ono speaker stated that a general strike would bo necessary before the men were starved out.
