One of the most destructive fires for several years almost totally destroyed Raymond's timber yard and sawmill at Nowstcad'. A-large quantity of valua.blo machinery, over a million and a quarter feet of pine, and a quantity of hardwood nvero destroyed. The origin of the firo is unknown. It lmrned fiercely for several hours. Tlio damage is .estimated at nearly £30,000. .Tho insurances total £7000. Seventy men liavo been rendered idle. Tho firemen experienced difficulty in preventing tlio firo from spreading to the largo gasometer of tho Brisbane Gas Company. OUTBREAK IN SUGAR REFINERY. Brisbane, September 1. A fire occurred at the Mallaquin sugair refinery, near Bunda.berg. The damage is estimated at £5000. A storo and house adjacent, containing £20,000 worth of sugar, was saved.
