LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
$ —. — ■ THE W.C.T.U. AND BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. Sir, —In a footnote to my Inst letter J'ou say I throw doubts on certain unions passing resolutions in favour of tlio I3ible-in-Sehools League. This is not correct. 1 only say that they dill not consider tho resolutions of suf'licieiit importance) to he officially forwarded. You say Kaiapoi passed such resolution in June. L Is strange, then, that when then forwarded a full account of their Juno meeting this resolution is not mentioned. You appear to be publishing hearsay evidence. Every word 1 sent you was 1 ' from tho union's own official reports. You say Mrs. l'onfokl presided at a meeting of tlio Roslyn Union. Wo have 110 Jiosiyn Union, and Mrs. I'enfold is president of Kaikorai Union. I havo no wisli to prolong a newspaper correspondence, and am prepared to let unprejudiced readers dccido which shall carry most weight: evidence of tho "wo aro informed" type, or tho official reports, of the unions themselves. You say nothing re my information that more than three unions passed resolutions supporting the Convention. I presume your informant lias only gathered resolutions on tho one side. In conclusion I would like to point out that eve.'i if seventeen unions out cf 107 have passed resolutions dissenting from tlio Convention's resolution, it does not mean such a large amount of disagreement, especially as I pointed out in my first letter that these unions ivero by no means unanimous. ■ Also, it is well to remember that Wangamu is the only first rank union (over 100 members) which lias passed such a resolution. Thanking you in anticipation.— I am, etc., NELLIE PERYMAN, Editor "White Ribbon." [Mrs. Peryman cliallenged certain statements published by us concerning tho W.O.T.tJ., but apparently is not in a position to prove thorn inaccurate. Tlio only case apparently in which an error occurred Was in describing tlio Kaikorai branch as the Roslyn branch. That error was not ours. Wo stated at tho time that wo had copied tlio report from tlio "Otngo Daily Times," which evidently liad confused two branches of tho union.]
