Mr. E. R. Wilkins has donated a trophy to tho Oddfellows' Miniature Riflo "Club for competition. A very pleasant card tournoy and danco'was held on Friday evening .in tho Belvedere School, when, after N two hours' card-playing, tho prizes wero awarded, and in every instance two or throo players tied and bad to "cut" to decido ithe winner. Finally prizes were awarded to Miss I. Bond and Mr. P. Parker. The consolation honours went to Masters Alf. Havdon and Len. Kihg. After supper had been handed round tho room was cleared for dancing. Mr. W. Hayden provided: tho rtiusie, and Mr. C. Do Lacey was M.C. A meeting of the General Committee of tho Wairarapa Automobile Association was held on: Friday-evening, Mr. C. F/lgar presiding. Tlio Foatherston County Council wroto stating that instructions had been given to keep Abbott's Creek bridge clear of debris liablo to damage tho structure; also suggesting that tho association's grant bo devoted towards improving tho northern approach to tlio bridge. The association expressed satisfaction at tho attitude of the council, and tho opinion was expressed- that tho road was better already from tho attention givoji it. It was decided that tlio. association leavo the work on tho hill to tho council to bo carried out on tho lines of their letter. Tho Now ' Zealand Automobile Union wrote stating that it had beon decided to defray the out-of-pocket expenses of tlie chairman incurred during the formation of tlio union, and a levy waa to be made on all affiliated associations in proportion to tho strength of (the bodies. Tho Wairarapa Association's sharo had been allotted at £4 ss. Sd., based on a membership of 95. • The annual fee for membership to tho union would bo £11 17s. Gd., at 2s. 6d. per member. Tlio- chairman pointed out that as yet this association was not affiliated, and if it was going to cost £16 or so, ho did not think ithoy should join. Tho finances would not stand it. If it was decided to join, the membership fee would havo to bo raised. Ho could not understand why the union wanted the monoy. It was decided that this association, owing to the fees, regretted that it would bo unable to join tlio union. A sub-committce was set un to draw up a list of places in the Wairarapa South County, where sign-posts wore necessary, such list to be forwarded to the county council as a suggestiou. ________
