RUMOUR OF LODGE FOR WOMEN. (By Toloirrapk—fiwcinl Co7T«spon<lont.l Auckland, September 1. It is reported that a Masonic Lodge, admitting both sexes, will be shortly opened in Auckland, aiul that a 33rd dcgroo Mason will ho the first master. ° In conversation with a Mason of the 33rd degree, a reporter was informed that such lodges exist in other countries, but do not interchange visits with lodges in which the membership is restricted to males. In' America thero exists tho Fellowship of Humane Rights, which may bo described as a coMasonic body. Thero arc two lodges ill Sydney, and one in Melbourne. This Order originated in Franco in 1872, when a lady journalist was initiated into tho Masonic Order, but the Grand Lodge promptly suspended tho whole lot. ° This condition lasted for twelve years, when Bro. Georgo Martin, a member of the Grand Lodge of France, started to make members. It is now claimed there are some 173 mixed lodges in France, with a membership of about 8(100, and the Order in the United Slates, has a membership of u-,000. Such iodges also exist in India and other parts of the world.
