The native Sini, otherwise Matipa, who was brought to tho Bluff' by the steamer Anglo-Norman from Maiden Island, whore ho was alleged to have murdered another native, was beforo Mr. Cruicksliank, S.M., at tho Police Oourt on Saturday on a charge-of being a prohibited immigrant. About n fortnight ago accused was beforo tho Court in connection with tho same charge, and he was then remanded as doubt was entertained as to whether he came within the definition of a prohibited immigrant, he being a native of the Cook Islands dependency of Now Zealand. Tho magistrate said that as the man had boon taken off tho boat by the polico there the charge would hardly arise. Under the circumstances, it would bo hotter to placo tho accused on board the boat again, and if lie came ashoro lie could be rearrested. Later the man was put'ashore and rearrested, and remanded till Wednesday noxt. ' SUCCESSFUL BIPLANE FLIGHT. Auckland, August 31. A successful aeroplane ijight of I about a mile was made on' Saturday af- j temoon at Avondalo by a machine owned by a local syndicate. Tho flight was made at an altitude of about 130 feet, and after about a milo had been covered tho biplane, which is of the Farman type, camo to earth without mishap. A WELLINGTON BURGLARY. i Auckland, August 30. James Leonard and I'hillip O'Dovmell, both 19 years of age, have been arrested liero on a charge of burglary at Wellington and theft of money and jewellery from tho dwelling of Frederick Saunders to .tho value of £103. They \Vero brought before the Court and remanded until Friday. MOISTENED MILK. Levin, August 29. 'A'. J. Kemp, a Levin dairy farmer, was convicted by Mr. Poynton, S.M., for selling milk adulterated with water. The samplo was taken at Levin railway station, as tho cans wore being consigned to Wellington. The police asked for an exemplary penalty, as the retailors in Wellington wero held responsible by law immediately tho milk passed into their possession. Defendant pleaded ignoranco of how tho water got into tho cans. _ A fine of £5-and costs was imposed.
CHARCE OF ARSON. Napier, August '29. As a sequol to the recent fire in Hastings, Patrick Macnamara was to-day charged with areon, and making a falso declaration. In conjunction with Nellie Wells, Nacnamara was also charged with conspiring to defraud tho Guardian Insuranco Company. Wliilo attempting, on behalf of his employers, on July 31 to break the motor-car record from Napier to Wellington, Albert Edward Russell was stopped for furious driving. Ho travelled through Dannevirke at about fortv miles an hour. To-day ho wan lined £5 by tho . magistrate, Mr. M'Carthy, S.M., in default one month's imprisonment. In tbo Supremo Court a decreo nisi in' divorce was granted William Bowden Stephens, formerly of Dpgavillc, against Eliza Ann Stephens, on_ the ground of misconduct with Benjamin Jimr.vs Williams. Petitioner now resides in Cliristcluirch.
