UPSETTING AT THE MACQUARIE9. In conversation with a Dominion representative Mr. A. Sawyer, who lias been ill charge of the Mawson Expedition's wireless station at Macquaric Island, mentioned a curious thing; in connection -with tlie visit of vessels to that lonoly spot. "You cannot tell how upsetting it is after months of solitude to 'havo a vessel call and to soo strango faces. I'vo been through it and know. Those fellows won't ho abls to oat or sleep normally for a! week after tho Tutanckai leaves. It njso takes away all desire to smoke—praotically makes ono sick for a few days. AVhilo you are there the men may seem to have been all right, but a' reaction sets in as soon as the vessel leaves, and they would liavo a bad time for a day or two until they settle once again into their stride." ! Mr. Sawyer, said that although they 'were able to subsist 011 sea-elephants' meat, 'it was not tho bfcst of. faro as far as tho general health was ed, and several of tho Mawson party had been "off colour" at different times ■; owing to their rough diet. —
