$ ; MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS FETED. Tho Eastbourne Hall was crowded on Saturday ovening last, when the residents of Eastbourne tendered a complimentary function to tho Mayor (Mr. W. J. Organ) and councillor!-., in commemoration of tho niunicipalisation of tho harbour ferry servico by tho Eastbourno Borough Council. A most enjoyable evening was speut. Mr. J. I'. Kelly, chairman • of the committee which had the arrangements in hand, explained tho purpose of tho gathering, and congratulated tho council upon its enterprise, and wished thorn every success. Mr. T. M. Wili'ord, M.P., referred to tho rapid growth of the borough, and expressed tho hope that it would not bo long bofore Day's Bay joined in with tho borough. In the speaker's opinion, tlio niunicipalisation of tlio ferry servico would prove very beneficial to tho residents, who could always bo assured of a consistent and reliable service betweon the eastern shores and tho city. . He. expressed the opinion that all present would appreciate tlio Mayor and councillors' action and enterprise in taking over what has always been 'a sore problem with the residents. Mr. Organ, in reply, stated that the residents had now their own forry service, and he hoped that the new timetable, which came into operation on Monday (to-day),_ would meet the requirements of residents. He felt sura that tho borough, with its splendid beaches, would increase in popularity, and tho niunicipalisation of the harbour ferry servico was a linn step in that direction. Tlio servico, ho said, would be controlled by a ferry board, which would deal with all complaints, and maintain, to tho best of their ability, a servico to the city which would bo hard to beat.
