On account of the Ihumata's belated arrival at Dunedin from Pabre Island, via Noumea and Wostport, it was surmisod that tho vessel had encountered heavy weather whilst loading guano at tho land. The Ihumata's chief officer (Mr. Robertson) states that during the 33 daya that she was loading tho vessel never left her moorings. From all accounts the loading fadMtics or© not conducive to quick dispatch, the guano being conveyed from tho island in two punts, the lattar beitta towed, back and forrfh by "a sort of an oil launch," as it was described by tlio>?3 on board, and' >n order to keep tho launch up to its work one of the Ultimata's en* ginears had to remain on tho little craft almost continuously. To make matters worse, one) of the punts foundered in deep water, and as . only ono punt thereafter available the leading of the Ilmmata bee&mo tedious in the extreme, and 33 days ela-psed before tho ve-sol was able to cot her full cargo. By tluat time her coal supplies had mm rarther low, and when the vessel left the island on August 12 Captain Benton made for Noumea to obtain cool, arriving t-hore on Aru?rust 14. T>vo dayfl lat<<r she Tosumed her voy<a.?o to Dunedin-, visitine Westport en route for bunker eupplio9. Fino to moderate weather prevailed throughout tho trip until Fovcaux Strait was reached last Tuesday, when eoms strong southeriy windi? and hiipli eeas were met' with coming alone tho coaet. When tho Ihumata left the island tho barque Thora wa>s loading, and- Captain. Hurley wished to bo imported "All welil." Tho Th-ora had' than been weeks at the island, »o.nd was not expected to ffet away for another fortnight. Oasptam Benton is in command of tho Ihm.mat'a, and his officers are:—First, Mr. J. Robertson; second, Mr.. D©'a,motto; flrF.t eaiitrinecar. Mr. Finloypon : n?cond and thirds Mea-'ra. and Tompeom. KTJMARA FOR LONDON. Tho Btearner Kumara left Auckland for Wellington- at 7.10 a.m. yesterday, and is due in port to-morrow. Departure will bo taken? for London' on Thlursda.y, fiefptomber 4. After having mited the Mocquario and Auckland Islands, the Gonrorniment steamer Tutaneko.i returned to > via tho Bluff, yesterday morning.
