CADET RIFLE MATCH.

HOBEPiTS'S IMPERIAL TROPHY. The secondary school cadets who wero chosen to represent New Zealand ill tho Karl Koberts Imperial Trophy Competition iired olf at Trentham rifle range yesterday. The cadets, who were in charge of" Major D. Jlatheson and Ser-geant-Jlajor Parks, went into camp on '.Tuesday last for practice. Tho evenings in camp were devoted to lectures and instruction 011 the use of tho rifle. Tlio rifles, except in ono case, wero the short pattern. Tho exception used the long rifle, and, by tho way, made top score. Yesterday morniiig rain fell heavily 011 the range, and it- was thought by thoso in chargo that they would have to cancel the mutch. However, it was decided to'carry it through. Firing commenced..at noon. Tho conditions could not have been worse. The weather was cloudy, tliere was a changing light, and a variablo wind. The conditions for the match were as follow: —(Practice 1) Snap shooting, seven rounds at 200 yards, at targets visible for three seconds, and occulting for t-en seconds. (Practice 2) JFivo rounds at 500. yards at targets visible for 60 seconds. (Practice 3) Two rounds at 500, 400, 300, and 200 yards, respectively. THE SCORES.

[Tho team which won tho match last year (Natal) iscorcd 68 points.] Cadet W. 11. Hill (Auckland Grammar School) was captain of tho team, and Cadet M. Ernest was vice-captain, Cadets Howau and M'Leary were tho reserves or waiting; Tho firing was witnessed by Lieut.Colonel J. K. Cochrane (Director of Military Operations), Major J. G. Hughes, D.S.O. (Headquarters Staff), Major Mathcson (Senior Cadets), and Lieut. J. M. Kosc, of the District Headquarters Staff). Tho cadets return from Trentham this morning, and will proceed to headquarters, whoro tliev will be 'photographed. Later in the day they will return to their various homes.
