Tho Public Petitions Committee of the House of Representatives reported yesterday tOiat it had 110 recommendation to make rcgn.riliiip' the petition of J. 'J'. Sullivan, of Dunouin, for reinstatement as Inspector of Fisheries, or as to compensation for services rendered. A petition from the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and signed for the church by tlie Moderator, the Rev. Andrew Cameron, and tlio convener of tho Temperance Committee of the Assembly, tho Rov. Alex. Miller, was presented to tho Legislative Council yesterday by tho Hon John Dnthie. The prayer of tho petitioners was that the majority required to carry a proposal at tlio local option poll, and the Dominion option poll, be reduced from GO per cent, to 55 per cent.; that the time of notice before Dominion prohibition can come into force after the proposal be reduced from four years to two years; that privato bars in hotels be abolished; and that under one license there should exist only one bar, and that placed in a room opening 'on to the street. Tho matter of the appointment of a manager of tho municipal ferry service, which is now before the Eastbourne Borough Council, has been deferred for some weeks.
