ACCOUNTANTS COUNCIL.
The council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants met yesterday I morning at the society's rooms, and sat 1 all day until 10 p.m. Mx. I'. Barr pre- ) sided. The proceedings were not open 3 to the press, and the report given below . is supplied. b The following officers for the ensuing 1 year woro elected: —President, Mr. A. ; T.' Clarko (Wellington); vico-prosidcnt, / Mr. J. Brown (Dunedin); treasurer, Mr. s J. S. Baa-ton (Wellington). Mr. Clarke, 3 upon election, took tlio chair. ] Several appointments were mado to t tflie executive, itnd Finance, Investiga--1 tion, Examination, and Legislation Committees. j It was decided to strongly urge the r Government to provide for representation! of the society on tho Senate of the t University of New Zealand. s Tho question of lioiiTmembers of the 3 society practising as accountants was discussed, and the Legislative Oolll ill it — ~ v tee was ■ instructed to deal witli tho 1 matter at the earliest opportunity. : It was dccided to take proceedings . against persons who had previously been members of tho society, but whoso e membership had lapsed, for tho purpose of recovering certificates of membership i from any who refused to deliver them j to tlio society. 1 Tho allocation, of grants to local branches was dealt with, and grants s wore made after considering the recom- -- mendations of* the various local com- ? mittees. ' A deputation was appointed to wait " on tho Public Service Commissioner for the purpose of advocating tlie inclusion of qualified accountants amongst the professional division of the service, t under tlio Public Service Act. ' It was' resolved to hold tho next ani- nil a 1 meeting of the society at Dunedin.
