PROPOSED FREEZING WORKS.

\ A MMAWATU SCHEME. (By Teleeraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, August 28. A meeting of graziera interested, in CBtablii^mg, a 00-aporativc freezing works for tho ifanftwatu West Ooast to-day discusawl tho Teport of tlio architect, Mr. A. S. Mitcncll 1 , Wellington, on the sites. Three sites were oonsidorea, namely, Foxton Heads, I/oiigliurJi, and Kakariki. ilr. Mitclicll disapproved the Foxton site, and pointed, out, vanous elibrteomiiigs. Hho shipping companies had been interviewed concerning their williiignesa to call at Foxton for cargo, but their replies wore discouraging. Apart from this the interest oil capital, depreciation, and l maintenance of lig'hters and tugs for the conveyanco of cargoes out to tho liners would more than swallow any advhntago Foxton loading presented against shroping to ■Wellington. Concerning the Kakanki site, this was suitable in respect to its proximity to tho railway and water B-apply, but it was doubtful if stook froui Pa'linerstoni or'.further south would bo attracted northwards to Kakariki. Cougiderable diihculty and expoiiso wculd bo involved in providing a .railway siding. 11l roforonco to Longburn, this district was most desirable. If a new Longbum site was acquired, it slhould be adjacent to the present works, and prov ferably lower doivn the river. Mr." Balsillie moved tliat tile meeting favour a Ixingburn site if amicablo arraugements could be made. This was carried. ; .. , r In the discussion ( wliicli followed, Mr. Jlonrison favoured an entirely new com-papyj-athor than aii amalgamation. Jtr.' Balsillie disagreeing said that opposition, to-the mosont works "n-ould be unsuccessful'. Tho Longburn works had treated the farmers well, and sliould 'be considered. . " _ i Mr. Jlollsop sugcested that tho company should bo limited to half tho capital and the farmers to find tho remainder. He. moved that they conifer with the manager of the National Mortgage Company, who was in attendance, and the meeting went into committee for this, purpose.
