' Only two nominations liavo been received for tho vacant seat on tho Napier ftorough Council, namely, Henry.. Hill, 1 Inspector of Schools for the Hawlte's Bay district, and Francis William Triggs. . Attention has been called to tlio fact that there aro some 100 pixpils at tho Napier High Schools who aro not secondary pupils, and that tliero aro feomo who liavo not passed even tho first standard. The question, will bo dealt with at the next meeting of tho Board of Manager.?. Mr. C. M. Whitting was yesterday re-elected chairman of tho Education Board. A petition in bankruptcy has been filed bv Rangi Thompson, jockey, of Taradale, tho liabilities being £283 Os. Bd. There are no assets. _ At the annual meeting of tho Napier Chamber of Commerce, held yesterday, the following resolution was carried: "That the Napier Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with other Chambers of Commerco in tho Dominion, pc- , ftition Parliament to get the law dealing with Maori debts amended so that where Maoris havo rents coming to them the said rates should be attachable as in the case of Europeans.
