Vice-Regal. His Excellency tho Governor and the Countoss. of Liverpool will pay an official visit to Wanganui on or about October 15. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luko) returned to Wellington from Napier last evening. Mr. F. J. Mouat, solicitor, of tho Dunedin Land Office staff, is duo in Wellington by tho s.s. Maunganui tomorrow to attend tho preliminary meeting of the Public Service Appeal Board, of which he is an elected representative of State Departments other than tho Post and Tolegraph Department.

Sir. 11. J. Bigncll has becu unanimously rc-elected chairman of the Grey Education Board for the third term. Mr. Kilgour was rc-elcctcd treasurer.— Press Association. A Press' Association telogram from Reefton records the death of ,Mr. William Noonan, lato County Clerk. Deceased was a very old pioneer. Among the guests staying at the Albert Hotel aro: Miss Lilian Robson, of Auckland; Mr. A. F. Knight, of Auckland ; and Mr. J. B. Gillespie, of Wanganui. Advice has) been received that Mr. T. A. Johnston, formerly of the-Welling-ton Land and Survey Department, has gained first place, with the medal, in structural and field geology, also firstclass honours in engineering, as well as heading the list in senior drawing. He has also passed the subjects for M.A. degree with second-class honours. Mr. Harold Hamilton, son of Mr. A. Hamilton, director of tho Dominion Museum, and at present engaged in biological work with tho Mawson party at Macijuario Island, has been offered and has accepted the position of curator to tho Newtown Municipal Museum, Wellington, subject to his being permitted to finish his work with the Mawson expedition. With other members of tho party, Mr. Hamilton will bo picked up bv tho Aurora in February next, and will go down to the Ice Barrier in that vessel to bring back Dr. Mawson and his party. The president and the secretary of tho Overseas Club at Waihi (Messrs. Gibson and Johnson) aro both seriously ill, and at last night's meeting of tho Wellington Overseas Club a voto was passed expressing the hops that they would both speedily recover. Mr. Elwood Mead, chairman of the Victorian State Rivers and Water Supply Commission, has resigned the chairmanship, having accepted a position in California.
