Major Barclay,, officer commanding the South Canterbury infantry, conferred to-day with Representatives of tlio Farmers' Union, and laid before them tlio proposal to substitute whole or half-day parades for evening drills for country Territorials. The union's representatives heartily approved of the scheme, preferring full days,'and recommended two each month, in September. October, and November. It is admitted that this arrangement will not suit townspeople.

Tho trophy is to bo compoted for undor similar conditions to tho cup which tho donor won outright at the last show. It was reported at a mooting of tho General Committee of tho Wairarapa P. and A. Society that Mr. W. Strang had promised the same support as last year, viz., £10; that Levin and Co., as agents for the Lister Shearing Machine Co., had promised a cup for tho sheep classes, and that Mr. T. W. M'Kenzie had promised a £10 10s. cup, to be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals for tho cattle classes. It has taken many years to build up the reputation of the "Gilruth" Calf Food, but at last merit is rewarded, arid this food comes into its own.
