GRANT SOUGHT FRQM COUNCIL. Eimda aro wanted by tlio Early bottlers' Association to cam on . tlio work for which tlio association exists and tho Hon. J. E. Jenkinsou called upon, tlio Libraries Committee of tlio City Council yesterday to stato a case. Mr. Jonikiiison said that one of tho objects of tlio association was to collect ireoords of tho oarly history of Wellington, and of Now Zealand. Tho subscription for members Lad been fixed as low as possible, and, after paying working oxpeausos, there was very littlo re venue to oomo and go on. Ho believed that a balanoe of something liko £400, wjhich remained from tho Jubileo celebrations of 1891. liad been banded' to tlio City Council on trust, and had' now increased to a very respectable sum. Ho was tliero to ask for a grant from this fund. Tho Early Settlers' Associa* toon. had colloctod a uumbcr of photographs and works of early settlerß of Wellington, but had not tho means to mount and framo them, unless they could got assistance from the City Council. A room was also desired in tho Town Hall or ono of tho libraries wliero the pictures could bo lining and soon by visitors to Wellington. Members of tlio committeo gave Mr. Jenkinsou aju attentive hoaxing, and iiho chairman (Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh) informed liiin that tho matter would bo considered ia due oourso.
